As the NUMO president I myself visited Suttu town, Kamoenai village and Hokkaido prefecture to hand in the report in person to Mayors and Governor.

We have conducted a literature survey in Suttu town and Kamoenai village in Hokkaido since 17th November 2020. We sincerely thanks to the cooperation of Mayors wide range of stakeholders in the local municipalities in completion of the reports.

Also we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all of the people involved in.

This is the first literature survey conducted in Japan since the enactment of the Final Disposal Act enforced in 2000.

In the context of the final disposal program, which is an important national issue in Japan's energy policy, we would like to express our respect to the Mayor of Suttu Town, the Mayor of Kamoenai Village, and the residents of each community for accepting the literature survey, which has attracted nationwide attention as the "first literature survey sites”.

These reports are made available for public inspection in Suttu town and the Kamoenai village, as well as in other areas of Hokkaido. In parallel series of public meetings will be held to explain the geological disposal project and the outcomes of the literature survey in Suttu Town and Kamoenai Village.

We have received various opinions from the residents of Suttu Town and Kamoenai Village as well as discussions on the project at the “Place for Dialogue” session.

We take the thoughts of the Governor and the local community seriously and will continue to actively provide information so that people throughout Japan will become aware of the situation in Hokkaido and deepen their understanding of the final disposal program nation-wide.

We will keep promoting communication activities nationwide to have people know more about geological disposal and Japanese geological environment so that we will be able to think about how to realize geological disposal together as the entire society.
